ALO - Art of Light Organization

At ALO - the Art of Light Organization, we bring together a global community of visionaries to explore the transformative power
of light as a medium of artistic expression, we foster a deeper appreciation for the Art of Light. ALO, founded in year 2020, is dedicated to honoring the transformative potential of light as an artistic medium. By uniting a global network of creative minds — artists, designers, engineers, scientists and technologists — we delve into the intersection of creativity and innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. With a photograph of the legendary artist László Moholy-Nagy, considered as one of the first artists to systematically incorporate light into his art, shaping the foundation of the Art of Light, we pay tribute to his pioneering activity. Moholy's emblematic work called: Light Space Modulator, a.k.a: Light Prop for an Electric Stage finalized in 1931, is regarded as one of the very first light art installations in the world. We at ALO, we imagine Moholy saying: ALO from a 100 years distance!

Our goal is to cultivate a profound appreciation for the art of light while fostering innovative projects in art, technology, and design. We aim to connect diverse disciplines, highlighting the powerful ways in which light influences our perceptions, emotions, and surroundings. Our programs include artist residencies, community art projects, and a mentorship program for emerging artists.
Since our founding, we have made a significant impact in our community. We have provided opportunities for artists to exhibit their work, connected artists with each other, and brought the arts to underserved communities.
Through our members we helped initiating educational programmes, symposiums, exhibitions and a museum dedicated to the art of light. More information below!
Two of our members: László Zsolt Bordos and Márton Orosz, became co-presidents of the International Kepes Society! The Society's source of inspiration is the work and legacy of György Kepes a great visionaire of the 20st century who founded the Center for Advanced Visual Studies at MIT in Cambridge (USA). The idea to unite into a society was decided at the first International Symposium on Light in Eger, in 1993.
30st Anniversary of the Light Symposiums held in Hungary, at MOME - The Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest, accompanied by a photogram workshop and two exhibitions: Luminoteque at the Vasarely Museum in Budapest, and The newest Images of the world, at the Kepes Institute in Eger, ungary.
Co-founder of ALO, László Zsolt Bordos initiated this ambitious project. The project was a heavy task, due to serious conflicts with the coinvestors. The project became a success, however, the initiator, the eponym, the first art director and curator was never credited properly and he was never paid.
Co-founder of ALO initiated the Light Art Course at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest, which is running successfully since 2021!
Founders of ALO initiated the Light Art Manifesto. The Light Art Manifesto is a declaration that emphasizes the significance of light as a primary medium in contemporary art. The Manifesto was officially launched on May 16, 2021, on the International Day of Light!
